Story
Manchmal, da gibt es diesen einen Menschen im Freundeskreis, der mit der Zeit immer interessanter wird. Und irgendwann fragt man sich, ob man sich jetzt tatsächlich verknallt hat. Weil man sich allerdings nicht sicher ist und die Freundschaft nicht aufs Spiel setzen möchte, hält man die Füße still und tut so als wäre nichts. Auch wenn man insgeheim hofft, dass es dem anderen auch so geht.
Meanwhile in the Friendzone erzählt diese Geschichte. Unser Protagonist verliebt sich in eine Freundin, die ständig klagt, dass es den Richtigen nicht gibt und dass sie vermutlich noch ewig auf der Suche bleibt. Er kann nicht ertragen, dass sie nicht sieht, wie sehr er in sie verschossen ist. Seine Lösung besteht darin die Flucht zu ergreifen, um die Sache einfach etwas auskühlen zu lassen. Als er dann weg ist, merkt sie, wie sehr er ihr fehlt. Der Erzähler klärt sie dann mit diesem Lied auf, aber helfen kann er ihr auch nicht mehr. Ein Lied über das „Ich hätte es wissen müssen“ Gefühl.
Mit diesem Gefühlt geht es für unseren Protagonisten auf die Reise zum Mojo Dojo.
Entstehung und Hintergrund
Meanwhile in the Friendzone ist der erste Song, der von Olli Krausemann und Tobi S. zusammen komponiert wurde. Das synkopische Riff im Refrain entstammt Ollis Feder während die Strophe und der Text von Tobi hinzugefügt wurden. Rhythmuswechsel sind das Stilmittel des Songs, die das Auf und Ab der Gefühlslage gut unterlegen. Als Opener des Albums schafft dieses Lied die Grundstimmung der 11 Songs.
